Seeking Youth in Recovery

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) plans to host a meeting in the spring of 2013, joining together a diverse group of young people (18 - 25 years old) in long-term recovery from substance abuse. The Center's staff is seeking a group of ambitious young people in recovery to join this cohort. The purpose of this meeting is for young people from around the country to join together and collaborate on ideas for outreach campaigns and best practices for educating America's youth on substance abuse and recovery in different populations.

The Center is issuing an open-call for applicants interested in attending this meeting in the DC Metro Area. Applicants will be asked to actively participate in sharing their experiences in recovery and ideas for National outreach and education efforts. The application process is simply to submit a personal statement (example attached) to This email address is being protected from spambots. Statements will be reviewed and participants will be selected by a team off Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) staff. The statement should be no more than one page, one paragraph biography and a second paragraph describing their interest in this meeting. An example of what a personal statement could look like is linked below. Keep in mind, this is only an example and applicants are encouraged to be creative in designing their personal statement.
